REPORTS TO: Host Agency Manager/Task Force Coordinator.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

The Engagement Worker will enhance access for minority communities to
support services based in the Dublin **Apply on the website** area for
drug and alcohol related issues. This will be hosted, piloted and
evaluated in Dublin **Apply on the website** before expanding across
Dublin South, Kildare & West Wicklow community health care area. The
purpose of the role is to create timely access to the appropriate and
effective support services that meets the need of the individual, this
may include sign posting/referral to alternative specialist services
or providing a service to the individual.

This role of the Engagement Worker is to help support individuals to
decrease levels of substance misuse, reduce the harmful consumption of
alcohol and drugs, increase drug and alcohol awareness and encourage
the adoption of new skills and coping strategies.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:

The Engagement Worker reports directly to the manager of the host
agency and work with the D**Apply on the website**LDATF Coordinator
regarding progress on the work plan. The Engagement Worker will also
report to the Treatment and Rehabilitation (T&R) sub group of the Task
Force.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

_GENERAL DUTIES:_

* To provide information to Project Workers in Community, Voluntary
and Statutory agencies and the wider community on how to support
individuals in there services that belong to a minority group
* To provide training / education, as appropriate, to project
workers in Community, Voluntary and Statutory agencies and the wider
community.
* To provide information to counselling/ keyworking team, volunteer
sessional counsellors, practice support and child protection issues.
* Networking and communication ? the Engagement Worker will
produce on-going communication through leaflets, social media,
newsletter to minority groups in various languages

_SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:_

* Develop and maintain links with members of minority communities?
drug users experiencing difficulties and their
parents/spouses/siblings/partners and the wider community.
* Outreach is carried out both during daytime and after hours
throughout the Dublin South, Kildare & West Wicklow community health
care area.
* Provide information regarding access to the current drug teams and
advocate and support the individual in gaining access and remaining in
services
* Develop resource materials for minority communities to support
their knowledge and understanding of their drug and alcohol use.
* Develop resource materials for project workers in Community,
Voluntary and Statutory agencies and the wider community to equip them
with the tools to provide a high quality service for minority
communities.
* Support the referral process for members of minority groups
accessing drug and alcohol services.
* Work with and promote the HSE National Social Inclusion Office in
day to day work and materials.
* Work with and promote the work of the Irish Human Rights and
Equality Commission.
* Create a mapping of services within the Dublin South, Kildare &
West Wicklow community health care area in a variety of languages.
* Provide training to Community, Voluntary and Statutory agencies
and the wider community on social inclusion and anti racism.
* Provide training to service users and the wider community as
required
* Network and build links with all stakeholders in the area
promoting the work.
* Provide information on drug services in a variety of ways and
language as appropriate
* Maintain an up to date and accurate online presence that would
promote the work and signpost to relevant services
* To keep relevant and appropriate records.
* To attend training as requested by the steering committee.
* Other duties as requested.
* The role will require a level of flexibility and out of hours.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA

* Minimum of a level 7 diploma in Community Drugs Work, Addiction
Studies, Community Development or related field.
* Minimum of 4 years paid experience in addiction / community work /
community development settings.
* Have a thorough knowledge of drug related issues and their effect
and influence on individuals, families and communities.
* Knowledge and understanding of theory in evidence based practice
in the field of treatment & rehabilitation.
* Knowledge and understanding of National Drugs policy including
Reducing Harm, Supporting Recovery. Knowledge and understanding of
National Drugs Rehabilitation Framework and National Protocols and
Assessment Guidelines.
* Good knowledge and experience of case management and interagency
collaboration.
* Have experience of high quality inter-agency work, involving
community, voluntary and statutory agencies.
* Understanding of community, voluntary and statutory services
including services for under **Apply on the website**?s.
* Experience in facilitating training, development and workshops
with various groups.
* Effective written, oral and interpersonal communication skills,
including IT skills.
* He/she must have administration capacity to discharge the
functions of the post.
* Access to own transport, and full clean driving licence if
required.

DESIRABLE:

* Experience in strategic and operational planning.
* Experience in research/evaluation would be an advantage.
* Train the Trainer Qualification.
